In this episode of the gastric health show, we discuss three keys all Gastric Bypass and Gastric Sleeve patients must consider when needing to get back on track.
A smaller pouch doesn’t increase weight loss
Although wanting to “shrink” your pouch to lose unwanted regain seems magical, unfortunately it’s not possible. The popular pouch resets or 48 hour and 5 day pouch tests among the Weight Loss Surgery community explode this time a year, but do not provide lasting results.
A study completed in 2011 found no correlation between pouch size and weight loss
“No correlation was found between the percentage of extra weight loss and the pouch volume, patients who had large pouches (>50ml) had similar weight loss to those who had normal pouches. Even in patients with pouches >100ml in size, weight loss was comparable to those with smaller pouches”
Counting calories doesn’t equal weight loss
The calories-in calories-out mantra has been preached as the solution to the obesity epidemic for quite some time. Unfortunately, the obesity rate has yet to decline.
Many doctors, dietitians, and weight loss surgery centers still follow this out-of-date, ineffective model that leaves all parties involved frustrated.
You see, all calories are not equal. Thus, meticulously counting every calorie that crosses your lips doesn’t guarantee weight loss. As an example…..
Consuming 1200 calories of snicker bars and will provide different weight loss results compared to 1200 calories of broccoli. I would recommend reading this blog post for a great description of Why calories don’t matter.
Getting back on track is all about quality food
A study from 2016 found that….
“Roux-en-y gastric bypass patients with long-term obesity and poor diet quality were at risk of weight regain”

Here’s what one of our former participants has to say….
I loved the recipes… easy and my husband loved them, as did I. I felt full and satisfied. I have not had a low blood sugar since following your 10 Day Back on Track Class Meal Plan and that was my goal.
Plus, the loss of 4 pounds was an added bonus. Looking back I realize I was not eating the right foods therefore I was having low blood sugars. I have a whole new way of thinking when it comes to eating thanks to the Gastric Health Club and to you Dawn! Thanks!!
The Challenge Begins February 5th, Click here to join.
